High Key/Low Key Lighting

Examples of High Key lighting. Designed to flatter and works best on children and women. Very few shadows and very even lighting.

Low Key lighting is much darker and designed to bring out texture and isolate certain qualities. It is best used on men and to create a visually interesting shot. The example below is called Rembrandt lighting. One side of the face is lit well and the other is cast in shadow with the exception of a small area of light below the eye. I didn't have as much time to work on this one and so I only have one really good shot. Thanks mom for posing for me!

Compositional Ephasis

So I almost forgot about this assignment and ended up taking the shots the day before they were due! I know so bad! It won't happen again! lol. My teacher gave us a list of composition elements to pick from and then had to submit seven for a grade. We had to use the same object or person in all the photos. Cadence and I had a great time finding places to put the flower. Here are the ones that I ended up with...

This first one is Selective Focus
Texture
Vertical vs Horizontal (Point of View)
Balance
Balance in color (cause I couldn't decide which I liked better)
Framing
Rule of Thirds
Scale

Two Light Table Top

Two lights, a table, and stuff to go on it! lol. Let me know which version you like best cause I am having a hard time picking out a version to turn in. I have color, sepia/antique, and black and white. Also one has my mom's notions box in it. Let me know what you all think!

White Balance Comparison

The point of this assignment was to illustrate the effect photographing the same subject using different white balance settings under different lighting conditions. We had three different white balance settings to use: Daylight, Tungsten, and Flouresent. There are of course many more settings than that but they are the three most common lighting conditions. You should be able to see the difference of photographing in the right and wrong lighting situtations.

Daylight as main source of light:

Tungsten (common house hold lights) as main source of light:

Flourecsent light as main source of light: Above: White balance set on Daylight

I didn't exect the flourescent light shots to come out correct. They hardly ever do since flourecsent lights are what all my teachers call an "unnatural" light source and is really hard to photograph in well.

We had to shoot one of each and then all three together and make sure that the lighting ratios were perfect using two different light metering techniques. It was insane but I learned a lot.

The Worthen's

Here are some photos from the shoot I had with Wyndee, Chad and their darling little girl, Brynlyn. They were so much fun to shoot and I learned a lot. Thanks again Wyndee for letting me photograph your lovely family!
